Analysis of Routing Protocols in VANETs with Different Pause Times

The increased number of vehicles on highways, combined with the rising frequency of deadly accidents, has prompted research and development of new generation technologies to assist drivers in traveling more safely. Drivers’ inability to consistently respond to changing road conditions is a primary cause of traffic accidents. Recently, the IEEE accepted the vehicular ad-hoc networks with standard IEEE 802.11p. VANET, a component of intelligent transportation systems, will offer a wide range of applications for preventing highway accidents. Most academics utilize simulations to verify the feasibility of this technology, evaluate protocols for novel applications, and determine the cost of deploying real-time vehicular ad-hoc network setup on roads. In VANET, pause time refers to the amount of time mobile nodes keep static during connecting with one another. This study considered various simulators such as SUMO and NS3, as well as routing protocols such as AODV, DSDV, DSR, and OLSR for vehicle ad-hoc networks. The primary goal of this study is to identify the optimum VANET routing protocol over various pause intervals. According to the results, AODV is the best routing protocols in terms of performance parameters such as packet receive rate and average routing throughput.
