This paper focuses on the changes in water quality parameters in all three directions of a river around an effluent discharge point. Effluents from industries and domestic wastes are discharged at various points of a river, which subsequently affect human beings using contaminated water and aquatic life. The online and offline water quality parameters measurements, including “Temperature, Potential of Hydrogen (pH), Turbidity, Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Total Suspended Solids (TSS), Dissolved Oxygen (DO), Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD)” are discussed. This survey reveals that although there are a few works for measuring water quality parameters along a river, we could trace only a limited number of papers dealing with water quality parameters measurement along the depth. The use of online measurement techniques may help in measuring the water quality parameters along a river at any distance from the bank, across a river and along the river’s depth.

摘要
