Assessing Drought Propagation Trends Across Varied Agroclimatic Zones in India

A prolonged period of below normal precipitation is generally defined as an occurrence of drought. India is a country which is heavily dependent on agriculture therefore, understanding the variations and trends in drought across different agroclimatic regions is crucial for combating drought. This study investigates the changing trends in drought patterns across diverse agroclimatic regions in India. The research employs a combination of remote sensing data, meteorological data, and trend analysis techniques to assess trends in various drought types across India. Drought indices such as the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI), Deviation in Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (Dev-NDVI) and Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) derived Drought Severity Index (DSI) were utilized to quantify and analyze different drought types across diverse agroclimatic zones. The results of this study aim to contribute to our comprehensive understanding of the evolving drought scenario in different agroclimatic regions of India.
