Approach to Fractures
摘要
Fractures are breaks in bone continuity caused by trauma or stress. They can be closed or open, stable or unstable, and vary by site and severity. Signs include pain, swelling, deformity, and impaired function. Diagnosis involves clinical assessment and imaging. Initial management includes immobilization, pain control, and elevation. Emergency referral is needed for open, comminuted, intra-articular, or complicated fractures. Orthopedic referral is advised for non-union, persistent pain, or complications. Follow-up depends on fracture type and patient factors, guided by the “rule of 3s” to estimate healing time. Monitoring includes clinical and radiological assessments, with attention to comorbidities and preventive care.
