Unveiling Energy Depletion Attacks in Wireless Sensor Network and Defensive Mechanisms
摘要
Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are very useful for accomplishing security and surveillance-related applications in the Internet of Things (IoT). Since energy constraint plays a vital role in the execution of communication protocols, detecting any adversary attack in the sensor network is of utmost importance. Energy Depletion Attacks (EDA) are the reason behind the performance deterioration of a WSN. In this paper, we have studied attacks associated with energy dissipation based on recent research works. Initially, the background of WSN protocols is analyzed on the basis of security objectives, and subsequently, protocols that are prone to attack have been identified. Further discussion is carried out to obtain the reason behind the depletion attacks for energy consumption. Finally, we have discussed the potential research directions based on various types of EDA and their different states.
