The Maritime History of China

In the past decade, China’s economic historians have become increasingly concerned with the socioeconomic history of coastal regions and the history of maritime industry sectors, churning out a large number of voluminous works. The depth and breadth of these works have surpassed that of any previous period, making valuable contributions to the study of the historical lessons of China’s transformation from tradition to modernity when China faces seaward and goes global.
