Business Cycles, Falling Rates of Profit and the Dynamism of Capitalist Space

  • Fujio Mizuoka

摘要

This chapter returns to the capitalist space, this time in its dynamism. Thecapitalist spatial configuration is always subject to the crisis, analysed in Sects.2–4 in consecutive order of the business cycle, incorporating space as thetheoretical element. The business cycle culminates in crisis and, in the long run, into thetendential fall in the rate of profit, which has triggered global capitalism to mobilisecountervailing forces to overcome the profit squeeze. This leads to the shift of capitalistregimes from Fordism to neo-liberalism. Its spatial manifestation is the new globalconfiguration of economic space, most notably the New International Division ofLabour, to exploit the global pool of cheap labour to the advantage of multinationalcapital.
