The Built Environment

  • Fujio Mizuoka

摘要

The configuration of relational space is etched onto the land surface and thehuman mind. The former is the built environment, the physical materialisation ofrelational space, thus made tangible and visible. The huge cost of producing thebuilt environment induces the state power to create space. As the built environment is apart of the material space, it can change its shape only when certain economicconditions are met. It, therefore, forms a fetter for society in its development andfunctions to curb the movement of the oppressed to achieve their autonomy andfreedom. Sect. 4 offers a long digression on the ‘relocation rule’ of the builtenvironment, which constitutes a theoretical clue for analysing the capitalist space indynamism in Chap. 8 .
