Constitution water refers to water that primarily exists in the form of hydroxide ion (OH −) in the mineral lattice. Constitution water participates in the coordination polyhedra in the crystal lattice, occupying fixed positions, with a specific content ratio in its composition. The most common form of constitution water is in the form of hydroxide ion, as seen in kaolinite Al 4[Si 4O 10](OH) 8. There are also small amounts of water participating in the mineral lattice in the form of H + and (H 3O) +, as in the natural alkali Na 3H[CO 3] 2·2H 2O and hydromica (K, H 3O)A1 2[AlSi 3O 10](OH) 2.
