Zeolitic Water in Minerals and Its Properties

The zeolitic water mainly refers to the water existing in the form of single water molecules between the structural channels of zeolite group minerals, which can be lost and recovered without damaging the mineral structure. One of the characteristics of the crystal structure of zeolite group mineral is the framework structure, with many voids and channels where water occupies them, and its position is not very fixed. These water molecules can escape from the zeolite lattice without destroying the structure, and under suitable temperature conditions, they can also reabsorb a certain amount of water. In other words, zeolitic water can freely move in and out of the crystal lattice within a certain range. Zeolitic water can freely enter and exit the mineral channels, but there is a fixed proportional relationship between its upper limit and other components of the mineral. Therefore, its crystallochemical formula can be written as Na 2[Al 2Si 3O 10]·2H 2O.
