Hydroscopic water is water that does not exist within the structure of mineral crystals. Hydroscopic water is ordinary water existing on the surface or in the cracks of minerals due to surface energy, that is, neutral H 2O molecules. Hydroscopic water can exist in gas, liquid, or solid form and can appear in various minerals. The water attached to the surface of mineral particles is called film water; the water filled in the fine cracks between mineral individuals or aggregates is called capillary water; and the water adsorbed on the surface of colloidal particles as a dispersing medium is called colloidal water.
