Hydroscopic water is ordinary water existing on the surface or in the cracks of minerals due to surface energy, that is, neutral H 2O molecules. Hydroscopic water can exist in gas, liquid, or solid form and can appear in various minerals. The water attached to the surface of mineral particles is called film water; the water filled in the fine cracks between mineral individuals or aggregates is called capillary water; and the water adsorbed on the surface of colloidal particles as a dispersing medium is called colloidal water.
