Thermal Conductivity and Specific Heat Capacity of Minerals

As we all know, it takes different amounts of heat to raise substances of different materials, such as natural iron, natural copper, and water, to the same temperature when they have the same mass and temperature. This leads to the concept of heat capacity ( C). Different minerals have different specific heats. The amount of heat needed to increase the temperature of a unit mass of a mineral by 1 K or 1 °C is called the specific heat capacity of the mineral.
