Exfoliation is one of the modification techniques for mineral materials. For two-dimensional structured mineral materials, their physical and chemical properties often correlate positively with the diameter-to-thickness ratio. The larger the diameter-to-thickness ratio, the thinner the flakes, and the better the relevant physical and chemical properties, and vice versa. However, due to mineralization, diagenesis, and interlayer gravitational effects, the two-dimensional structural mineral materials in nature often form aggregates resembling book-like or thick layers, affecting product performance and quality. Therefore, certain physical or chemical methods used for delamination modification to increase its ratio of diameter to depth are crucial for transforming it from mineral raw materials into mineral materials. A typical example is the delamination modification of kaolin and graphite.
