摘要

Friction Stir Processing (FSP) has quickly become a widely adopted method for fabricating composites, specifically addressing the current high demand for ceramic composite manufacturing. The challenges associated with the high melting point of ceramics have hindered their fabrication processes. FSP presents a unique solution to these difficulties, offering a substantial means to overcome such challenges. This review explores considerable research work for the fabrication of metal matrix composites (MMCs) with the application of FSP. The primary aim of this paper is to perform an in-depth examination of the manufacturing of ceramics reinforced composites using FSP. The review meticulously elucidates the operational intricacies of FSP, encompassing aspects such as the choice of base metals, reinforcement materials, and an extensive analysis of different properties including hardness, resistance to wear, resistance to corrosion, fatigue, and tensile strength. Recognizing the profound impact of microstructural changes on material properties, the review incorporates a detailed discussion on microstructural analysis. Furthermore, the paper not only consolidates existing knowledge but also outlines future research trends in this specific area, providing a roadmap for prospective investigations and advancements in the fabrication of ceramic composites by using FSP.
