A De Novo Green FMCDM Approach for Performance Evaluation of CNC Die Sinking EDM Machines

The advent of Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) has considerably impacted the highly automated manufacturing industries where precision, biocompatibility of materials and improved productivity are paramount requirements. To adhere to green manufacturing standards and consistent quality in the finished products, proper performance evaluation of CNC Die Sinking EDM Machine is inevitable. This paper explores a novel homogeneous group decision-making approach involving multiple alternatives, multiple experts and multiple conflicting criteria. The concept of fuzzy set theory is applied to compute performance rating of alternatives and linguistic weight associated criteria under fuzzy environment. In this proposed method, a novel aggregation operator and new weighting average operator have been introduced. A new performance index measuring technique is also suggested in the proposed approach. The proposed method is illustrated with a numerical example on performance evaluation of CNC Die Sinking EDM machines. The results obtained by this method have been compared and verified with a number of existing well-known MCDM methods. It has been found that the ranks obtained by the proposed method have high correlation coefficients with the results obtained by the existing methodologies. Therefore, the proposed method is highly effective, and useful managerial decision-making aids in the field of fuzzy MCDM.
