Stability Analysis and Design Optimization of FRP Cruciform Columns by Response Surface Method

摘要

The stability analysis of cruciform columns made of Glass Fiber/Vinyl Ester FRP composites and their design optimization were presented. The web width, flange width, web thickness, and flange thickness are the parameters considered. Response Surface Method, a statistical optimization tool has been applied for identifying interactions between the parameters considered and for further design optimization. A total of 30 FEM simulations were performed to determine the failure load and thereby to develop the approximating model. The approximating model was very close to the actual values and was found to be satisfactory in predicting the response at unknown design points. The optimized design found through RSM also is in good agreement with the actual ANSYS result.
