RFID Technology in Fashion Supply Chain—Recent Trends and Analysis from Developing Countries

This paper’s objective is to examine the latest Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technologies and their potential advantages for narrowing the sustainability gaps, as well as the difficulties that they pose in Vietnam’s fashion and textile supply chain. The study was based on a foundation of qualitative research including journal articles, academic research, and book chapters which can be found through online databases. The results indicated that as much as RFID is illustrated as the pivotal solution for supply chain transformation within the scope of encompassing social, economic, and environmental aspects; there are still constraints in ensuring the environmental benefits of producing RFID since certain components of the tags are either hard or non-recyclable. Furthermore, although RFID technology is employed to deter counterfeiting in the fashion supply chain, the tag itself is susceptible to cybersecurity breaches such as cloning, tracking, and disabling. Additional measures and research should be undertaken to promote the latest RFID technology and address the current issues. Implementing the ECO RFID tag and Sewed Chipless RFID tag is advised for fabricating the transformation.
