Food security and agricultural productivity were threatened by population explosion, climate change, and natural resource depletion. Based on population growth and consumption patterns, agricultural production needs to be increased by 70% by 2050 to feed the growing global population. However, the climate change will reduce productivity and greatly impact the production of the agriculture sector (crop, livestock, fisheries, and forestry). The agriculture sector is alone contributing 14% of the global greenhouse gas emissions. To address these issues, agricultural practices must be modified in a more sustainable manner to increase productivity and income. Climate-smart agriculture (CSA) is essential for increasing agricultural productivity and sustainability while lowering GHG emissions. They assist agricultural production systems in withstanding damage and recovering quickly through mitigation and adaptation strategies. Climate-smart tools such as conservation agriculture, precision farming, soil and water conservation measures, residue management, integrated water, nutrient, and pest management strategies, climate information services, and information and communication technologies assist farmers in integrating both traditional and innovative technologies and practices and reducing the impact of climate change. Thus, climate-smart tools and practices will play an important role and pave the way forward in increasing agricultural productivity and sustainability while also providing resilience to climate-related risks.
