Zone Budgeting of Chakdah Block of Nadia District, West Bengal, Using MODFLOW-6

Globally, groundwater is a significant natural source of potable water. Recharge of aquifers is a major part of the hydrological cycle. Recharge estimations are extremely important for water supply engineering, water balance studies, and applications involving water resources. MODFLOW has been used to visualize groundwater flow and estimate recharge in the Chakdah Block of the Nadia District in West Bengal. The primary purpose of this research is to examine the Annual volumetric water budget of the study area and the groundwater and surface water interactions. The total area under study is approximately 350 km2. The study area is surrounded by the Hooghly River in the west. The estimated average precipitation in the area of study is 1450 mm. The slope of the ground in the study area is less than 10 m per km. A conceptual model was developed with various boundary conditions, including rivers, wells, precipitation, and evapotranspiration. On the basis of hydrological formation and pumping tests, specific yield, hydraulic conductivity, and specific storage estimates were assigned to each model layer. A transient state model was developed from 2016 to 2019. Using the Volumetric Budget, the overall discrepancy of the Groundwater flow model was evaluated.
