COVID-19COVID-19 has led to a significant increase in family violenceFamily violence worldwide and Bangladesh is no exception. This study adopts a qualitative approach to understanding family violenceFamily violence and explores social work interventionsSocial work interventions to address it in an urban setting. Two organizations located in Sylhet city of Bangladesh, namely the WomenWomen Support Programme (WSPWomen Support Programme (WSP)) and Bangladesh Legal Aid Services Trust (BLAST)Bangladesh Legal Aid Services Trust (BLAST) dealing with family violenceFamily violence have been selected for this research. A total of 35 female respondents were surveyed using a close-ended structured interview schedule. Fifteen abused married womenMarried women, and 5 perpetrators have been interviewed using a semi-structured interview guideline. Additionally, 2 FGDsFGD with male respondents and 3 key informants’ interviews have been carried out to extract their experience of dealing with family violenceFamily violence. The findings show the nature of family violenceFamily violence and the actual reasons behind it that have specifically occurred during COVID-19COVID-19. It has portrayed a picture of the coping mechanismsCoping mechanisms adopted by the victims and the perpetrators, and explored social work interventionsSocial work interventions to resolve the crises so that a sustainableSustainable and violenceViolence-free community could be built.
