Agripreneurship, Agribusiness Value Chain and Actualization of SDGs Implications for Entrepreneurship and Agribusiness Development in Brunei Darussalam

Using a critical literature review strategy enriched with secondary data on agribusiness in Brunei Darussalam, this chapter provides an insightful discussion on how agripreneurship within the agribusiness value chain can advance the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The chapter discussion culminates in four important qualitative insights. First, the concepts of agripreneurship and agribusiness value chain are operationalized and their role in achieving the SDGs is clearly explained for academic contribution. Second, it highlights that agripreneurship can increase operational efficiency, crop yields, profitability, and social equity by optimizing the agricultural value chain, thereby promoting economic growth, food security, and environmental sustainability. It highlights that integrating entrepreneurial principles into agriculture not only revitalizes the sector but also ensures its alignment with the SDGs. Furthermore, a review of secondary data and existing literature confirms the tendency of agripreneurship within Brunei's agricultural value chain to support the achievement of SDGs 1, 2, 8, 9, 10, 12 and 13, which together work to combat hunger, poverty, and nutrition could contribute to uncertainty. Current trends in Brunei's agriculture show a shift toward diversification, a push to adopt modern technologies, and a growing interest in organic farming. The chapter concludes with a contextualization of the qualitative findings in Brunei, including implications for policy and practice, limitations, and policy recommendations.
