Agricultural Policy, Village-Owned Farms, and Rural Development

The complicated relationships between public policies, agricultural strategies, and rural development require government intervention in shaping and improving agricultural production. This chapter discusses how agricultural policy guides farming practices by embracing broader social and environmental objectives, reflecting a shift towards more comprehensive approaches. Through a systematic review following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, this study examined reputable databases such as Google Scholar and Scopus and identified 122 relevant publications from 2008 to 2023. Following a meticulous evaluation, 19 publications were deemed most relevant to answer the key research questions underpinning this chapter. The findings emphasize the importance of incorporating sustainability strategies in the agricultural policies of village-owned farms and rural development to achieve the three primary goals of sustainable agriculture: economic prosperity, environmental protection, and social justice. By embracing innovation, collaboration, and a commitment to long-term sustainability, policymakers, farmers, and communities can work together to foster a more resilient and equitable agricultural sector.
