Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) focuses on sectors: economics, culture, research, and industry while incorporating the principles of the Sendai Framework into disaster management efforts. It promotes regional peace, mutual assistance, and collaboration with a support mechanism to respond to disasters and mitigate disaster impacts through coordinated action. During the last two decades, the initiatives under ASEAN saw a significant paradigm shift from only political and economic cooperation to greater collaboration with partners and organizations in building resilience, strengthening institutional capacities, disaster risk management, and enhancing coordination. ASEAN has established specific collective laws and policy frameworks for disaster risk management through the adoption and implementation of the AADMER by the ACDM. Although member countries have individual laws and regulations related to disaster risk management these frameworks align with AADMER and the broader ASEAN cooperation on disaster management. This chapter systematically reviews the evolution of disaster risk management laws and agreements in the region over time. This gives an overview of the various country-specific laws related to disaster management, key stakeholder mapping in the ASEAN region, and their collective agreements that have led to improved readiness to withstand disasters. A review of the disaster management law and agreements to date shall therefore offer a robust pathway to the policymakers for managing collaborative efforts and strengthening disaster management mechanisms by fostering regional cooperation and adapting to emerging threats.

摘要
