Synthesis and Properties of 0D, 1D, 2D MoS2

The ongoing development of nanotechnology, since the 80s, aims to explore the exotic physical properties, explained by quantum mechanics, that materials exhibit when reduced to the nanometer scale. In Sects. 1 and 2 of this chapter, we will present the key concepts and techniques used in the synthesis of MoS2 at the nanoscale. Then, in Sect. 3, we will discuss, considering a few representative examples, the impact of the spatial confinement on the electronic states of MoS2 nanostructures with different dimensionality.
