This paper is a commentary on the current status of design education in India. It argues that the education of designers has not kept pace with the disruptive changes that have been taking place in the world around. It takes a brief overview of the disruptive history of the journey of design, from the craft era to the industrial era to the digital era and the more recent AI/ML era that is likely to dominate. It pleads for the need to reimage design education which can deal with the design approach demanded by all the eras.
