Conclusion: Multiplying Brokerage Relations and Mobility Politics

This concluding chapter expresses critical reflections on the social and technological impacts of mobility. It explicates brokerage typology and relations, including both middleman and catalyst brokerages, analyzing their roles in facilitating mobility and shaping social-technological practices. The findings reveal that while daigou businesses offer alternative economic channels and the potential for social mobility, these opportunities do not necessarily translate to significant gender empowerment. Ethnographic evidence underscores the intersection of gender and technology, illustrating how daigou practices perpetuate existing inequalities while also providing limited spaces for negotiating gender roles.
