Introduction: Probing Mobility Politics in Globalized China

This introductory chapter explains the research context, conceptualization, and methodology employed in this research. I first briefly introduce a discussion of mobility politics and highlight the significance of mobility in understanding societal changes, especially in the context of China’s globalization. I then explain the intersection of technological, gender, and labor dynamics to understand the complexities of the daigou industry. The last two sections of the chapter elaborate upon the ethnographic methodology and structure of the book.
