GIS-Based Mapping and Analysis of Noise Pollution—A Case Study
摘要
Rapid urbanization catalyzes noise pollution which can be considered a public health issue that requires a clarion call during these present times. This scenario is witnessing a galactic leap mainly in developing countries like India and the reasons behind this surge is vividly the population explosion and industrialization. Noise is the unwanted sound that affects our physical and mental health; hence mitigation of noise pollution is a primary concern. This can be attained by the proper evaluation of noise levels in an area using various noise indicators. In this context, the current study is thrust on measuring and analyzing the noise pollution levels in the Kazhakootam area. Equivalent sound pressure level (Leq) was measured on-site. Using computed values of noise descriptors from Leq, the Traffic Noise Index and Noise Pollution Index was produced. Noise maps of Leq and indices were also prepared.
