Handheld Doppler (HHD) was one of the first “imaging” devices used by plastic surgeons, especially with the development of perforator flaps. It remains useful for postoperative monitoring, and a lot of surgeons still use it for preoperative planning despite a few drawbacks that are directly correlated to this device that uses only the audible “Doppler effect.”
