Antibodies in cancer treatment have revolutionized therapy strategies, offering targeted, immune system-based strategies with a focus on precision. Monoclonal antibodies (mAbs), the most prevalent form, are lab-engineered molecules that mimic the immune system’s ability to target cancer cells. These mAbs either directly bind to specific proteins on cancer cells or are conjugated with chemotherapy drugs or radioactive particles, selectively attacking cancer cells while sparing healthy tissue. Additionally, bispecific antibodies, capable of binding to two different targets, such as a cancer cell and a T cell, have emerged, enhancing the immune response against cancer. This shift toward antibody-based therapies signifies a move toward more personalized, effective cancer treatment, demonstrating significant progress in managing previously challenging cancer types and underscoring the growing importance of immunotherapy in cancer treatment.
