An Understanding of PLA Synthesis Using Metal Catalysts

A comprehensive study regarding the factors guiding the ROP of lactide were discussed citing prominent examples from our research. These factors were found to be dependent on the bulk, symmetry and denticity of the ligand, size and electropositivity of the metal present in the catalyst, Lewis acidity of the metal contained in the catalyst, symmetry and nuclearity of the metal catalyst, difference in initiation and propagation rates, and symmetry of the metal catalyst is crucial for tacticity of PLA observed in chain-end control mechanism (CEM).
