A State-of-the-Art Analysis of the Study of the Characteristics of Geopolymer Concrete - A Natural Production

Chemical interactions between industrial byproducts and naturally occurring alumino silicate sources can produce geo-polymer concrete (GPC). Lack of standards or clear rules for mix manufacture is the biggest disadvantage of GPC. An appropriate approach used to make the mix design of geopolymer concrete is the major constraint of its acceptance in the industry. In the ordinary Portland cement mix design, its mechanical and durability properties are significantly affected by the water to cement ration. Numerous parameters like binder type, curing method adopted, alkaline activator used and its ratio with respect to cementitious material, etc. may directly or indirectly effect the fresh and hard properties of geopolymer concrete. In this research work, a study of various physical, chemical and microstructural properties of geopolymer concrete is represented. GGBS is found to be the better Cementious material than the others related. Cured GPC products have high strength than OPC but more curing at high temperature leads to the cracks. Addition of alkaline liquids instead of water provides better strength and ageing also effects the strength of the product i.e. more strength more ageing. An effective mix design of GPC ratio leads to the better and fine results.
