Purpose - The global alliance for buildings and construction emphasized the need for a roadmap to support decarbonizing of new and existing buildings. The strategy to achieve global clean energy transition for buildings on the fast track mode includes sufficiency, efficiency and decarbonization as the three key pillars. The main emphasis of this study is to investigate the contribution of facilities management (FM) domain in achieving sustainability for buildings at global level. Design/methodology/approach - This study is a review of sustainable facilities management practices (SFM) for green buildings. An exhaustive review of literature was performed by searching in high quality journals the relevant keywords such as sustainability, FM, SFM, green buildings, building performance and energy efficiency, among others. 46 articles were shortlisted and reviewed, aligning with the research objectives. Findings - Studies in the past (as seen through the literature review section) have documented the experiences of facility managers in terms of sustainable approaches, through semi structured interviews and questionnaire survey. However, there is a very limited information available that highlights detailed analysis of use of technology, systems and practices adopted for SFM especially for green buildings. The further research in this direction can be to demonstrate SFM for green buildings implemented by facility managers through real life case studies. Originality - The paper provides a systematic literature review on SFM practices for green buildings. The study offers significant insights that can help associated stakeholders in promoting SFM for green buildings.
