In today’s rapidly globalizing world, ensuring safety performance has become a crucial concern for industries striving to be world-class competitors. Occupational accidents not only result in permanent disabilities or fatalities but also lead to significant economic losses. It is alarming to note that the construction industry in developing countries is ten times more hazardous compared to developed nations. Moreover, the fatality rate in developed countries is nearly half that of India, where an estimated 1580 workers in this sector per 1 lakh face potential risks. Understanding and mitigating hazards and risks are fundamental processes that underpin the advanced principles governing occupational health and safety today. To prevent workplace injuries, it is imperative to conduct risk assessments, maintain proper housekeeping, ensure adequate preparation, and enhance personal protective equipment (PPE) through appropriate preventive measures. In order to establish a strong safety culture, it is essential to reorient the mindset of employees by promoting better practices, emphasizing proper housekeeping, and fostering improvements in the work community and work practices. Unfortunately, occupational injuries are prevalent not only in India but also in many other developing countries. By predicting different types of accidents, administrators can develop organizational strategies to enhance safety performance. A questionnaire survey was conducted to identify the factors contributing to these accidents, and the collected data underwent statistical testing, specifically the Relative Importance Index (RII), to draw conclusions. Among the identified factors, the management factor emerged as the most influential.
