Management Information System and the Business Decision-Making Process in the Hardware Sector

As a consequence of globalization and increasing market competition, the use of information systems and technology in companies has increased dramatically in the last decades. As a result, the business landscape has changed, which has had significant positive effects on companies. This study focuses on how the management of a hardware store can benefit from the use of a management information system. The hardware sector has grown significantly in recent years, with only 12% of the market in the hands of large chains and the remaining 88% in the hands of medium and small enterprises. It has been observed that they rely on anecdotal evidence when making decisions based on experience, and that inventory management is the only system that is used by the majority of entrepreneurs. The research was descriptive in nature, the data collection consisted of surveying 97 hardware stores in the city of Huaraz, and the chi-square test was used to test the hypothesis; the following were the results of the study. The hardware industry in Huaraz is little impacted by Management Information Systems. Computerized Management Information Systems are used in hardware stores in Huaraz. In Huaraz, more than half of the hardware store managers rely on their own experience and personal knowledge to make important business decisions. While 59.8% limit themselves to using the inventory control system, only 17.6% make use of fairly specialized information.
