Maternal mortality continues to be a major challenge in India, with the country accounting for 15% of global maternal deaths. In recent years, social accountability interventions have been implemented to improve the quality of maternal health services and reduce maternal mortality. This analytical review of existing literature aims to assess the effectiveness of social accountability interventions in improving maternal health services in India. The review covers a range of studies published in Google Scholar between 2011 and 2023. The results indicate that social accountability interventions have the potential to improve the quality of maternal health services in India. Community-based strategies, citizen report cards, and participatory interventions with women's groups have been found to be effective in improving maternal health outcomes. However, the effectiveness of social accountability interventions is influenced by a range of factors, including political will, capacity building, and community participation. The review highlights the need for continued efforts to strengthen social accountability mechanisms in India's health system to improve maternal health outcomes.
