Implementation of Zigbee-GSM Based Home Security Monitoring and Remote-Control System

Since ages, mankind has a deep concern about home security due to apprehensions regarding safekeeping, monitoring, and controlling various assets. With the lapse of time this concern is growing day by day. With various technological advancements and updated skills, it becomes very much desirable to monitor, reliably and remotely control the real time operations of our home. There are certainly many stunning benefits of deploying state-of-the-art, home automation systems with an user friendly interface. This paper certainly presents one of the innovative home security and automation system. The proposed system uses ZigBee based Interfaced sensors forming a control unit/console. Suspicious activities are conveyed to the remote user either through SMS or over a call over GSM technology. In reply to this suspicion activity the remote user can again access to the premises through a combination of ZigBee and GSM. Whereas the traditional alarm systems are designed to enhance the security in one-way only i.e., from home to the remote user but no corrective action could be sent from the remote user to home. This system provides a cost-effective, user-friendly way of a reliable and portable monitoring system with very less power consumption and an effectively controlled secure environment. The software code is in C language which uses the concept of serial communication and attention and Terminal commands. Zigbee EM 357, Atmega 128 microcontroller and Sony Ericson T 290i basic mobile phone is used for the hardware implementation.
