Gold Nanoparticles as the Sterilant in Large-Scale Micropropagation of Plants

One of the most challenging circumstances in micropropagation is microbial contamination (fungi, bacteria, etc.), which results in a decline in plant trait and destruction of valuable stocks. As a result, a crucial stage in the effectiveness of plant micropropagation is the disinfection of explant surface and culture medium sterilization. The activities of additives and plant development aids may have decreased due to the typical autoclaving media approach. Typical surface cleaners like mercuric chloride are considered harmful to human health and are not environmentally friendly. Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) have recently been demonstrated to be an efficient sterling for the culture media and explants, as well as to positively promote plant regeneration and elicit the development of secondary products. Current chapter highlights recent research studies of AuNPs in the large-scale micropropagation of plants as the sterilant.
