Trends in High Performance GIS Technology

The field of information technology is advancing at an exponential rate. The integration of big data, artificial intelligence, and high-performance GIS has transformed the traditional GIS in terms of data format, technological approach, and interaction methods. Firstly, the swift advancement of data acquisition technology has allowed GIS data types to transcend the constraints of traditional unified mapping 4D products (DRG, DLG, DOM, DEM), giving rise to a new era of GIS data. Secondly, the evolution of 3D GIS, Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Mixed Reality (MR) technologies now allows for browsing, measuring, and analyzing GIS scenes within a virtual environment and performing related operations. At last, there is a significant demand for Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the GIS field. This chapter explores the possible development directions of high-performance GIS.
