In A Record of Jiangnan Gardens, the famous Chinese architect Tong Jun points out that “no matter how Chinese gardens are categorized, be it ancestral yard, cemeterial yard, temple garden and private garden, or as an attachment to guild house, government office or academy in the history, the difference only lies in their sizes. Their layout remains the same.”
