The integration of Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in bioinformatics has revolutionized the field by enabling the efficient analysis and interpretation of biological data. This chapter explores the significant impact of ML and AI in various bioinformatics applications, including drug discovery, personalized medicine, genomic analysis, and disease research, and discusses the utilization of ML algorithms such as neural networks, convolutional neural networks, random forests, and support vector machines to address challenges in genetic disease studies, cancer genetics, and personalized medicine. Additionally, it outlines AI’s contributions to biomedical image analysis, text mining, and literature analysis, facilitating biomarker discovery and therapeutic target identification. Overall, the integration of ML and AI enhances data analysis capabilities, leading to significant advancements in biomedical research, healthcare, and drug development within the field of bioinformatics.
