Microbiome analysis have emerged as powerful tool for studying the composition, diversity, and function of microbial communities in diverse environments. It involves the high-throughput sequencing and analysis of DNA extracted directly from the samples, allowing for the comprehensive characterization of microbial genomes without the need for cultivation. Microbiome analysis focuses on the study of microbial communities inhabiting specific host-associated or environmental niches, such as the human gut, soil, ocean, or air. This chapter will provides an overview of metagenomics and microbiome analysis, highlighting their methodologies, applications, and challenges. Key steps in metagenomic and microbiome analysis include sample collection, DNA extraction, sequencing, bioinformatics analysis, and interpretation of results. Metagenomics and microbiome analysis have diverse applications across various fields, including environmental science, human health, agriculture, and biotechnology.
