Young-Type Electron Interference in Molecular Double Slit: A Brief Overview

  • Lokesh C. Tribedi

摘要

We have reviewed the recent investigations on the Young-type electron interference in ionization of diatomic molecules which are considered as molecular double slits based on the original proposition by Cohen and Fano. The examples of interference oscillations in electron spectrum, in ion-induced ionization, photo-ionization, and electron-impact ionization, are presented. The techniques of deriving such oscillations from electron spectrum, forward–backward asymmetry in electron spectroscopic investigation are emphasized besides mentioning about the ColTRIMS and vibrational spectroscopy and electron time-of-flight-based techniques. A series of data obtained from different research groups are discussed which deal with a number of issues, such as the first- and second-order interference, forward–backward difference in the frequency parameter, and the frequency doubling. In addition, the applications of the interference studies toward fundamental physics are also touched upon. The major experimental techniques to study the interference are also reviewed. However, this is not a comprehensive elaborate review, rather a brief overview, which can be used as a reference article.
