Minimally Invasive Surgery for Colon Cancer

There is no one best approach for laparoscopic surgery for colon cancers. Various surgeons have standardized the procedure to provide the best outcomes in their ambient operative set-up. This chapter provides an overview of the basic tenets of laparoscopic approach to colon cancer surgery focusing on principles of complete mesocolic excision with central vascular ligation and D3 lymphadenectomy. The video supplement highlights the technical nuances of laparoscopic right and left hemicolectomy in a case requiring total colectomy for colonic adenocarcinoma.
