摘要

In these modern times, the value of human life is great. The event of earthquake is inevitable and it can cause lot of causalities and disorders, the structures ability to endure the seismic events plays vital role for mitigation of such scenarios. To dissipate the earthquake energy, structure must be equipped with the energy dissipative systems. The additional ductility and the hysteretic behavior of metallic yield damper can aid to loose large amount of energy and prevent structural failure. This study is aimed to characterize the mechanical properties of Triangular Added Damping and Stiffness (TADAS) metallic yield dampers using analytical technique. The impact of geometric properties on the dampers such as thickness of the plates and reduced base width of the plates were investigated by studying structure’s response. In ABAQUS FEM software cyclic loading was applied to assess the mechanical properties. The force–displacement relationships were obtained from the analysis. The parameters such as the device's elastic stiffness, yield strength and yield displacement were investigated. The hysteresis graphs achieved through cyclic loading were used to evaluate the effective stiffness and damping characteristics of the device. By dissipating seismic energy, these dampers effectively reduce the structural response and mitigate the risk of catastrophic structural damage. The findings of this research have implications for enhancing the seismic response of dampers in the field of structural engineering.
