Therapeutic Hallmarks of Cancer and Immunology

摘要

Cancer remains a global health crisis, with millions of new cases and deaths each year. Cancer is characterized by eight hallmark features, including sustained proliferative signaling, evasion of tumor suppressors, resistance to cell death mechanisms, replicative immortality, induction of angiogenesis, activation of invasion and metastasis, deregulation of cellular metabolism, and avoidance of immune destruction. Targeted therapies and interventions have been developed to disrupt these hallmarks, offering hope for improved cancer outcomes. Cancer immunology has also made significant strides, with immunotherapy approaches such as monoclonal antibodies and immune checkpoint inhibitors showing clinical effectiveness. Nanotechnology is playing a role in enhancing cancer immunotherapy by precisely targeting immune cells, reprogramming tumor-associated macrophages, and modulating immunosuppressive cells. Nanovaccines, particularly those utilizing mRNA and nanocarriers, hold great promise in improving the efficacy of cancer vaccines. In summary, nanotechnology is revolutionizing cancer diagnosis and treatment, offering innovative solutions to combat this devastating disease. While challenges and safety concerns remain, ongoing research and development in the field hold the potential to transform cancer care and improve patient outcomes.
