Agricultural Waste Fibers Reinforced Polystyrene Composite
摘要
Polystyrene (PS) is widely used in many fields such as packaging and building installation. However, accumulation of PS can cause major land and ocean pollution due to its non-degradable and non-recyclable properties. Various initiatives have been made by researchers to improve the reusability of the polystyrene by reinforcing it with agricultural wastes. Polystyrene-agricultural waste composites would show increased mechanical properties and enhanced degradability. Different types of agricultural wastes, available methods used to prepare the composite materials as well as their unique properties were discussed in this chapter. The composite material will be a good replacement material in various applications for instance, in non-structural construction, secondary food packaging industry and art material industry which demonstrates potential approaches towards a circular materials economy.
