Recovery of Bioactive Peptides from the Agri-Industrial Wasteful Eggshell Membranes
摘要
The increasing trends of chicken egg consumption have led to the generation of high amounts of eggshells and their membranes as part of the agri-industrial waste. Due to its unique organic characteristics and valuable composition, the waste eggshell membrane (ESM) has been exponentially utilized within the nutraceuticals and pharmaceutical industry to produce natural bioactive peptides. Within the framework of circular economy, this chapter explores the overview of the chicken ESM, including their functional characteristics and various applications. This is followed by the recovery processes of bioactive peptides from ESM to maximize this valuable resource utilization and minimize the waste management issues in the production of environmental-friendly biomaterials.
