Microorganisms and Other Cancers

Cancer is among the most aggressive diseases worldwide representing leading cause of mortality. Cancer is a multistep tumorigenesis and transform from normal to cancerous one. The role of various microorganisms has extended to include their capability in modulating different cancer hallmarks. Infection persuaded by viruses, bacteria, fungi, and parasites can lead to tumorigenesis and progress to multiple types of cancers in human. Dysbiosis in microbiome can trigger different inflammatory responses and immune deregulation that can lead to cancer development. In this chapter, microorganisms and their interaction with other cancers like colorectal cancer, breast cancer, and gastric cancer; different factors affecting these cancers; and role of microorganism as a biomarker and as therapeutic potential are discussed.
