Optical Fiber Time Transfer Monitoring and Management System

In the paper, we design a monitoring and management system (MMS) for optical fiber time transfer (OFTT) based on manager/agent model. The proposed system includes monitoring and management server (MM-Server), monitoring and management unit (MMU) on OFTT device, and the communication interfaces interconnecting these entities. Utilizing B/S architecture and the Model-View-Controller design pattern, the MM-Server effectively segregates data, service logic, and the user interface, thereby improving the system’s scalability. The scalable and persistent OFTT-MMS has been tested on a bidirectional time-division multiplexing same-fiber same-wavelength OFTT system. The results indicate that the OFTT-MMS are capable to acquire real-time operational status of the time transfer devices and links, identify and handle faults, as well as realize remote configuration and visual monitoring of system performance, which can effectively improve the reliability, security, and availability of the OFTT system.
